A savings account should pay interest and should provide convenience. I’ve reviewed many of the savings accounts, and I prefer earning higher interest with a virtual bank. I have a Manulife Advantage account for my own savings. They provide a debit card, higher interest than the banks (no one offers much interest right now), easy transfers with your existing chequing account and e-transfers. You can use it as a chequing account, because transaction fees are waived if you keep a $1,000 balance (there are no monthly fees), and they have a great mobile app.
